Conceived as a sequel of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", the story begins in fictional St. Petersburg, Missouri, on the shore of the Mississippi River, sometime between 1835 and 1845. Huckleberry "Huck" Finn (the protagonist and first-person narrator) and his friend, Thomas "Tom" Sawyer, have each come into a considerable sum of money as a result of their earlier adventures. Huck explains how he is placed under the guardianship of the Widow Douglas and how Tom Sawyer helps him to escape one night. Mark Twain, geb. am 30.11.1835 in Florida (Missouri). Sein eigentlicher Name ist Samuel Longhorne Clemens. Mark Twain starb am 21.4.1910 in Redding (Connecticut).
